2015 SPLOST Public Meeting

Mark your calendars for Monday, February 10, 2014 at 6 pm at the Oconee Civic Center, where the Oconee County Commissioners will be presenting the 2015 SPLOST funding wish list---which includes $25 million for a new Judicial Center---and taking public comments. Please plan on attending and showing your support for the Plan of Watkinsville!

Welcome

People cherish traditional towns and neighborhoods for obvious qualities—the historic character of traditional Main Streets, the safe pedestrian environment, and the grace and dignity of buildings, among others—yet today we find it very difficult to create these kinds of thoughtful settlements with meaningful and lasting public buildings and spaces.

This proposal aims to promote more traditional growth in Downtown Watkinsville through the formation of a new civic green from Rocket Field, anchored on one end by the historic county Courthouse on Main Street for judicial functions and at the other, a new Municipal Hall housing city and county administration.

Above all, this is a framework for a generational project, and one that can be developed gradually to meet public needs and private market demands. The physical outcome could take many forms; however, the result would leave a lasting legacy to future generations.
